A Mansion of the Old South

Step back to an era of gracious living and antebellum splendor in this luxurious mansion of the old south, located in Mississippi's First National Historic District.

Six fluted Corinthian columns, 22 feet tall with terra-cotta capitals made in England, support the front gallery. On the interior, much of the scale and spaciousness has been used with large rooms and sliding doors. Specially designed centerpieces and ornate millwork tell of a bygone era. Guests can hear about local history from the Lums, whose families have been in Mississippi for more than 200 years. A rare collection of Civil War memorabilia, including many original family documents and a Confederate Sword, is also on display.

Two guesthouses accommodate the overnight guests in a "Gone with the Wind" setting. Each luxurious guest room is furnished with 18th- and 19th-century antiques, an elegantly draped canopied bed, air conditioning, cable television, telephone and private bath with large vanity.

See the town that General U.S. Grant said "was too beautiful to burn" (May 1863).

This 1850 Greek Revival-style mansion is comprised of the main house, two guest houses, a carriage house and quarters. The plantation is Port Gibson's largest and most palatial mansion. It was once the home of a cotton planter and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Port Gibson, incorporated in 1811, is the third oldest town in Mississippi. This historic district, with its tree-lined streets, offers visitors a quiet retreat to the past with historic tours of antebellum mansions, Civil War battlefields and museums.
