Southern Hotel is the oldest and longest operating hotel or lodging establishment in the United States west of the Mississippi.

This graceful Federal-style building, located in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri just 1/2 hour from St. Louis, was built in the 1790's and has been operating continuously as a hotel since 1805. At the Southern Hotel the graciousness of the past is carefully blended with modern comforts to make your stay a very special experience.

Each of the eight guestrooms at Southern Hotel has its own bath with a ball and claw foot bathtub, the original hot tubs. Dolly DuFour, a local artist, has masterfully painted the exterior of each tub to complement the theme of the rooms. Themes chosen based on the inn's extensive collection of antiques and a desire to offer something a little special to each accommodation.

The inn also features a beautiful garden which changes many times during the year. The Missouri Art Studio "Mosart" is on-site and open from all year round. The gallery is devoted exclusively to juried artists of "The Best of Missouri Hands."

A full breakfast is served in the dining room from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. Early risers will often take a cup of coffee and stroll through the garden, browse the Mosart Studio and enjoy the morning quiet while on the swing under the grape arbor.

Ste. Genevieve was originally founded in 1735 and is an architectural gem located on the banks of the Mississippi River. Local attractions include Hawn State Park, Pickle Springs, Bulldog Front Paintball, Magnolia Hollow State Park, and Ste. Genevieve Golf Course.

Take the ferry across the river to experience other French historic sites--Fort Kaskaskia state Park, Fort de Chartres, Prairie du Rocher and the Pierre Menard Home.
