Listed on the National Register of Historic
Places, the Moondance Inn Bed and Breakfast is an 1874 mansion
located in Red Wing where the Mississippi River separates
Minnesota and Wisconsin. Enjoy spacious lodging
accommodations, modern comforts and access to grand common
areas, both indoors and out.
Your first experience is walking onto an
enormous pillared porch, opening a 10-foot-high oak door, and
entering into a foyer with 12-foot ceilings and a sweeping
walnut staircase. The main-floor great room with fireplace is
elegant with beautiful Tiffany and Steuben chandeliers. The
palatial living room is reminiscent of quaint European hotel
lobbies. Both the main house and the carriage house out back
(where innkeepers Chris and Mike live) are made entirely of
18-inch-thick limestone block quarried locally. No other home
in Red Wing is made entirely of this block.
Retire to your private guest accommodation
boasting genuine antique furniture and central air
conditioning. Enjoy a luxurious bath in the two-person
whirlpool tub in your private bath. Afterwards, lounge in
front of the electric fireplace in cushy Moondance bathrobes.
If you are part of a small group, the four-bedroom Guesthouse
Next Door is an ideal vacation rental option. The Inn's
numerous outdoor gardens and award-winning front porch make
relaxing a pleasure.
Awake to the aroma of a full, sumptuous
breakfast each weekday, with freshly baked cookies served in
the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday mornings mean gourmet
preparations, with complimentary wine and appetizers enjoyed
in the evening. A continental breakfast of fresh fruit, juice,
a home-baked goodie, and coffee or tea is available every day
if you would rather dine in your room. As you relax with your
morning coffee and newspaper on the front porch, you might
want to start planning your day in the area. |
So what is there to do in Red Wing? More
than you will be able to get done in a couple of days, and
much of it is within walking distance of the bed and
breakfast. Browse through the collections of the numerous
antique and gift stores, then take in a picnic lunch on the
banks of the Mississippi River. You can find live theatre at
the historic Sheldon Theatre or catch a good movie at the
nearby cineplex.
Those seeking recreation need look no
further than the three award-winning golf courses near Red
Wing and the 38-mile Cannon Valley Bike Trail. Welsh Ski
Village offers downhill skiing, while several cross-country
ski areas are close by as well. Survey the scenery while
hiking the bluff country, perhaps spotting a bald eagle or two
in the winter months. |
