| The
Central Regions of Minnesota is where the mighty Mississippi
River begins deep in the dense forest as a small stream
beneath the pine trees of Itasca State Park. The peaceful
scenery of relatively "undiscovered" Otter Tail
Country make it a great spot for outdoor exploration. Hike
to Inspiration Point, at 1,750 feet the highest point in the
area of Minnesota. The heart of Minnesota is lake country.
The Brainerd Lakes Area, around the communities of Brainerd,
Baxter, Nisswa, Pequot Lakes, Crosslake and Pine River, is
splashed with over 460 lakes and
golf
courses. To the east is 18-mile wide Mille Lacs Lake,
the second largest within Minnesota. The new Paul Bunyan
Trail is paved for biking, and has quickly become a favorite
snowmobile trail as well. Alexandria, affectionately known
as "Alex," considers itself to be the "birthplace
of America." Many here claim that the Vikings explored
Minnesota long before Columbus made his voyage.
Bed
and Breakfast lodges throughout the area are run by
innkeepers that will love to share the folklore and beauty
of the area. |
