The Blue Hill Inn, especially known for its friendly
hospitality, is ideally located for exploring New England's
Acadia National Park and the Maine coast.
Guests enjoy sailing, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing,
antiquing, and discovering the many talented artists and
musicians living in the area. Don and Mary are expert in the
finer skills of making guests feel comfortable and helping
them to plan their day. The neighboring ocean and lakes make
for wonderful scenery and even better recreation. Take an
island or lighthouse tour aboard a small cruising yacht and
enjoy cocktails on the bridge at sunset!
The Blue Hill Inn is located within the registered historic
district of the small coastal village of Blue Hill. The
village is on the southern border of downeast Maine. Built in
1830, the Blue Hill Inn has operated continuously as a
hostelry since 1840. Over 160 years in operation, the Blue
Hill Inn is a noted and recognized lodging choice, appreciated
for its thoughtful accommodations and its exquisite gourmet
Wine Dinners, which are presented on four occasions during the
season.
A convenient hotel alternative, the Inn is located on an
acre of land near the center of the village and a block from
the head of Blue Hill Bay. The federally-styled building has
many of its original features, including clapboards, brick
ends, five chimneys, six-over-six windows, soft and hard wood
floors including wide pumpkin boards, and six fireplaces (four
working). The Inn is air-conditioned throughout. Eighteenth-
and nineteenth-century antiques create a nostalgic ambiance,
highlighted by the 20-candle French chandelier in the dining
room and the 10-candle Persian chandelier in the parlor.
There are nine guest rooms and three suites available, each
with a private bath. Some of the rooms feature sitting areas,
working fireplaces, and king- or queen-sized beds. A spacious
luxury suite with a king-sized bed, fireplace, living room
area, kitchen, and outside deck is located in the Cape House,
adjacent to the Inn. Turn-down service and fresh towels twice
a day are just a few of the special touches guests enjoy.
Views are green and grand, giving you glimpses of mature
trees, a perennial garden, and a small grove of apple trees.
