Graycote Inn is a beautifully restored
19th-century Victorian cottage in Bar Harbor, Maine offering
an unforgettable New England vacation retreat.
Lace-canopied beds, private baths, cozy
fireplaces, pleasant sunporches, and balconies grace the
property, sending a quiet message from another time. The
Victorian house named Graycote (a cote meaning small cottage)
was built in 1881 as a private residence for the Reverend
Christopher Starr Leffingwell, who came to Bar Harbor in 1879.
After the house exchanged hands several times, Roger and Pat
Samuel purchased the Graycote Inn in 1996. They added gardens,
antique Victorian furniture, and various additional services
in order provide their guests modern amenities with ageless
ambiance.
Graycote Inn offers 12 rooms with countless
personal touches. All lodgings are spacious with king- or
queen-size beds, and each has a private bath, while some offer
a choice of fireplace, sitting room, or balcony. There are
five suites in the accommodation choices. Enjoy free wireless
Internet access.
After a day in Acadia National Park or in
the village shops, return to the Graycote to enjoy some light
afternoon refreshments. In the summer, relax on the verandah
or in a hammock in the yard. In the winter, enjoy refreshments
in front of the fireplace in either the dining room or the
parlor. The comfortable furnishings and informal atmosphere
are conducive to conversation and are part of the bed and
breakfast inn's charm and gracious hospitality.
The morning at Graycote begins an hour
before breakfast with a tray of tea and locally roasted coffee
set out at each floor of the Inn. In warm weather, breakfast
is served to guests at tables for two or four on the sunny
breakfast porch and includes a choice of juices, cereals,
fresh fruit, fresh-baked muffins, cakes or breads, and a hot
main dish. In the winter, breakfast is served in the dining
room in front of a cozy wood fire. |
During your stay, Roger and Pat hope you
will experience all the grandeur and pristine beauty of Acadia
National Park, taking in the exhilarating view from the summit
of Cadillac Mountain; walking, biking, or skiing on the sixty
miles of carriage paths; or hiking some of the 120 miles of
foot trails.
The ocean, Bar Harbor shops, and many fine
restaurants are a pleasant four-block stroll from the inn. You
can enjoy sailing, golf, fishing, nature tours, and whale
watching.
Savor the essence of Maine in spring,
summer, autumn, or winter; your visit at Graycote Inn will be
a special and memorable experience. |
