An Historic Property with Lots of Appeal: Oakland
House Seaside Resort is one of the last original Maine coastal
resorts. It is operated by 4th generation innkeeper Jim
Littlefield whose ancestors settled the land in 1767. They
have been welcoming guests since 1889 when their first "rusticator"
guests arrived by steamship to Herricks Landing from ports in
Boston, Bangor, New York, and Philadelphia. Virtually
unchanged in more than 100 years, this casual yet
sophisticated resort retains the same warm appeal and homespun
hospitality sought by guests vacationing here since the turn
of the century.
Fine Dining at the Rusticator Restaurant: You'll
savor this fine dining experience! There are selections for
all tastes with seafood, meat, poultry and locally grown
fruits and vegetables featured every day. We've an extensive
wine and beer menu. You'll be greeted graciously and seated in
one of four dining rooms: the porch dining room looks out over
the gardens and small orchard, the living room dining room
that looks toward the sea beyond, the family dining room (if
you are with young children), or the library (for large
groups). Your table will be set with grandmothers blue onion
china and fresh flowers from our own organic gardens. During
high season there is an expansive brunch each Sunday morning.
Cottage reservations in the high season include a full
breakfast and dinner. Reservations at Shore Oaks Seaside Inn
include a full breakfast every morning either at the
Rusticator Restaurant (high season) or in Shore Oak's
oceanfront dining room (pre- and post-season). Shore Oaks
Seaside Inn guests may purchase dinner at the Rusticator. They
frequently do. Plan this ahead as you'll want your table
reserved. ...
Weddings are our speciality
Weddings: This is a striking coastal setting where
families and friends can gather for the Maine coast wedding of
their lifetime. The atmosphere is timeless, comfortable,
low-key, and relaxed. Yet, with food and service you might not
expect in such a rural location. A recent bride's mother said,
"Thank-you
again for a most wonderful wedding weekend for Jessica and
John. You, your staff and family extended to every one of us,
warm Maine hospitality. Oakland House is a true gem. Every
cottage is more interesting than the next, and the Shore Oaks
inn is just out of a book! Our hats off to you all-We look
forward to seeing you again."
Kid Friendly: We've been welcoming families with
children for generations. Our guest list includes 5th
generation children of guests. The cottages make a perfect
family vacation spot; while Shore Oaks Seaside Inn is a quiet
respite for grandparents and grown extended family members.
Oakland House Seaside Resort is ideal for family gatherings!
With so much to do on site, children are easy to entertain.
Explore a quiet tidal pool, hike a mossy trail, build a "fairy
house" in the woods, or take a swim in the warm, clear
water of the lake. Go fishing in the lake or ocean. The lawns
are large enough for a ball game, volleyball, and croquet all
at once. Children often discover friends while dining at the
Rusticator Restaurant.
Join us for your Maine holiday! You'll be glad you did. |
Shore Oaks Seaside Inn is a refreshingly restored large Arts
and Crafts style cottage built right at the water's edge in
1907. The ten bedrooms have period antiques and decor of the
era. But on the third floor there is an office with a
dedicated phone line for those who can't leave their laptops
at home.
