Rockmere Lodge sits on a slight knoll with a commanding
view of the Atlantic, midway along the Marginal Way, an
ocean-side footpath from Ogunquit Village to Perkins Cove.
Built in 1899 in the grand old style of the Maine shingled
cottage, this beautiful place-by-the-sea was the summer home
of the Stearns Family (of the Stearns and Foster Mattress
Company).
The interior of Rockmere Lodge has been completely
redecorated with many antiques and collectibles. The spacious
living room welcomes your comfort and enjoyment. During the
fall and winter seasons, guests enjoy basking in the heat of a
crackling fire that resides in the beautiful Italian tile
fireplace. The third-floor observation room, The
Lookout, has ocean views to Kennebunkport.
The guest accommodations at Rockmere Lodge consist of eight
rooms, each with a private bath, cable TV, clock radio/CD
player, and paddle fans. Victorian furnishings, ocean views,
and sitting areas are some of the comforts you might enjoy
depending on which room you choose. Other lodging amenities
available to you include hair dryers, toiletries, small
refrigerators, and iron and ironing board.
After an extended continental breakfast in the morning, you
will want to experience some of the many sights and activities
in the area.Recreationalists can enjoy horseback riding, golf,
tennis, kayaking, swimming, and hiking. Those looking for a
rare find or bargain may wish to visit local antique shops or
nearby outlet stores. In the evening, take in a showing at the
world-renowned Ogunquit Playhouse. |
The spacious grounds boast flower gardens with fountains and
statuary that reflect the way your hosts imagine Rockmere
Lodge would have looked at the turn of the century. You are
invited to stroll the grounds, bask in the sun, enjoy the cool
sea breeze, or just sit in the shade on a stark white
Adirondack chair. The sweeping veranda that wraps around the
entire front of the New England bed and breakfast inn is
graciously appointed with comfortable white wicker, making it
an inviting place to sit and enjoy the ocean view, nap, read,
or meet new friends.
Beach towels, beach umbrellas, and beach chairs are
available at the Lodge, and you can even request lemonade or
iced tea for the beach at breakfast. |
