The Castine Inn Bed and Breakfast is located in a peaceful,
historic village which sits on the tip of a peninsula
overlooking the Penobscot Bay, an unspoiled region of the
Acadia Maine Coast. Castine remains one of the most beautiful
towns in New England with many of the 18th and 19th century
Georgian and Federal style homes carefully restored such that
the town has been placed on the National Register of Historic
Places. Built in 1898, one block from the harbor this bed and
breakfast is an elegant, three-story home surrounded by a
wrap-around porch and lovely perennial gardens.
The Castine Inn offers thirteen guest rooms and four suites
warmly appointed in the carefree style and ambience that
attracted visitors in the 1920's. Choose from accommodations
with one queen, two twin or two king beds, each with private
bath. The four suites include an adjoining sitting room and
many rooms offer lovely views of the gardens or the active
harbor.
The Inn's perfect location puts fascinating town history
within walking distance and a 'Welcome to Castine'
walking brochure allows intriguing exploration at your
leisure. Hiking, cycling, kayaking, boating and swimming
emphasize this Main Coast state of mind. By car, visit your
choice of eclectic destinations such as the tiny village of
Deer Isle which boasts more art galleries per capita than any
other small town in Maine, or the town of Blue Hill, home of
Blue Hill Books and Northlight Books.
About an hour away lies Mount Desert Island, home to Acadia
National Park and the immensely popular resort area of Bar
Harbor where you can find sailing or power excursion boats
that tour the harbor or go further out on a whale watching
expedition and don't forget the camera! |
Dining
at the inn -- a destination of its own
Owner Amy Gutow graciously welcomes guests into the dining
room where her husband Tom presents his unique and refined
cuisine showcasing the natural bounty of the region.
The Castine Inn dining room, and in particular its chef,
innkeeper Tom Gutow, have been featured in Bon Appetit
magazine, the New York Times, the Boston Globe
and were recently awarded four diamonds by AAA, recognizing
Tom as one of the top chefs in the North Eastern United
States.
Tom draws from his diverse experiences in this country
and France to create dishes with multiple layers of
concentrated flavors and contrasting textures. By combining
ingredients in a manner that focuses their characteristic
tastes, Tom creates a cuisine that reveals to diners the true
flavors of the food.
For guests of the inn he plans a full, complimentary
breakfast each morning. |
