The Hawthorn Inn is a stately, spacious, turreted Victorian
mansion built in 1894 that takes full advantage of the views
of Camden Harbor and Mt. Battie.
Reflecting a bright, spacious version of a Queen Anne-style
Victorian mansion, the New England Bed and Breakfast retains
its original charm from the vintage stained glass panels in
the front parlor window, to the magnificent three-story
staircase in the foyer and lovely antiques throughout. The
house is on the National Register of Historic Places and is
situated in the High Street Historic District, near downtown
Camden, Maine.
The common rooms of the bed and breakfast inn are elegant,
yet inviting. The library features a wood-burning fireplace,
bookshelves stocked with books and videos to borrow during
your stay, and comfortable nooks to curl up in as you read or
chat with other guests.
Up the winding staircase in the Main House are four spacious
rooms on the second floor plus a glorious suite that extends
the full length of the top floor of the house. All lodging
accommodations have private baths, two with clawfoot Victorian
soaking tubs. The top-floor suite has a gas-log fireplace and
a television with VCR. In the adjacent Carriage House, four
luxury rooms have seasonal harbor views, private decks,
fireplaces, and televisions with VCRs. Three have two-person
whirlpool Jacuzzis and separate showers.
Breakfast at the Hawthorn Inn is a multi-course event
focusing on fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and exotic
dishes. Local Maine goods and certified organic products are
used. On sunny, warm days, breakfast is served on the outdoor
deck, overlooking the sloping lawn and gardens; in winter,
breakfast is served fireside. |
A two-minute stroll down the sloping back lawn and through
the town's historic amphitheater, where summer concerts and
art exhibits are held, takes you to Camden's waterfront, shops
and restaurants. Whatever your plans for the day -- hiking,
biking, day trips to the islands -- the Hawthorn Inn is a
haven for quiet relaxation when your return.
The Hawthorn is a wonderful venue for small, intimate
weddings and/or wedding receptions. Steps from the
amphitheater where many weddings take place, it also is the
perfect location to house wedding guests. |
