Popham Beach Bed and Breakfast, formerly the Old Coast Guard Station, is located directly on the historic Popham Beach in midcoast Maine at the mouth of the Kennbec River, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Constructed in 1883 as a Life Saving Station, taken over by the Coast Guard in 1935, and decommissioned in 1971, the red-roofed building remains a distinctive and well-loved landmark at Popham Beach.

Enjoy the casual comfort of the inn, offering year-round lodging accommodations. Common rooms are furnished with many unusual antiques from Scotland, Norway, and Belgium. The guest living room looks directly out to the sea. Spacious, sun-filled accommodations offer fresh flowers, ocean views and are tastefully furnished. Thoughtful touches in the guest rooms and throughout the inn make you feel at home.

In the morning, wake to a full breakfast served in the dining room, consisting of two or three courses of your breakfast favorites. The menu varies with a seasonal variety of fresh fruit and breakfast meats as well as a changing array of breakfast dishes. Fresh breads, muffins, and tarts are always offered to accompany your breakfast entree. A continental breakfast is available to early-departing guests. After a satisfying morning meal, you will want to begin your day in scenic Midcoast Maine.

Take a walk on the six-mile-long, sandy beach; just a few steps out the door is one of the best locations for catching stripers and blues. Watch the seals, ospreys, and cormorants, and enjoy the views of a quaint fishing village, islands, and lighthouses. Climb to the lookout tower to view the panoramic vista of the bold Atlantic and the various islands.

Partake in the various boat rides and charter boats in the area, or bring your own canoe or kayak. For the history buff, browse around Fort Popham, a Civil War fort, and Fort Baldwin, both within walking distance. There are various hiking trails as well as tennis and golf on the Phippsburg Peninsula. Tour the Maine Maritime Museum, or enjoy a fine arts performance at the Chocolate Church or Bowdoin College. Browse the antique shops in Bath and Wiscasset or go shopping in Freeport, only 35 minutes away.
