Nestled on the
shores of the Wicomico River and about 25 minutes outside
Salisbury, Maryland, The Whitehaven Hotel offers a waterfront
getaway in an Eastern Shore village at the Whitehaven ferry
just minutes from the Chesapeake Bay.
In 1995, the 19th-century Whitehaven Hotel was saved from
the wrecking ball through the cooperative efforts of local
residents, the Maryland Historic trust, and those captivated
by its charming location. At the landing of the Whitehaven
Ferry a the Hotel, now one of the last of its kind, is listed
on the National Register of Historic Places.
The hotel offers bed and breakfast accommodations in 8 guest
rooms, each with a private bath and individual thermostats for
heating and cooling. Two rooms have access to the second-floor
screened porch, and two have working fireplaces. Two
accommodations also have mini kitchens, perfect for longer
stays. One of the bedrooms is located on the first floor and
is handicapped accessible. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the
living room with welcoming fireplace, a wonderful place to
read, sip a glass of wine, and relax.
In the morning, enjoy a full gourmet breakfast served in
the dining room complete with a view of the Wicomico River.
After breakfast, browse in the Hotel's store, A Room with
A View, featuring handcrafted Eastern Shore items. Tour
the historic village of Whitehaven, or enjoy coffee on the
porch and chat with the locals who drop by.
Bikes and two kayaks are available to active guests at no
additional cost. A marina is across the street has a dock for
guests who travel to the Hotel via water. Golf and fishing are
nearby. The village of Whitehaven is about 25 minutes outside
Salisbury, with other Eastern Shore attractions such as Ocean
City, Chincoteague Island, and the Assateague National
Seashore short drives away.

The building once provided lodging for travelers crossing
the Wicomico by horse to Quantico, Salisbury, and Princess
Anne and by steamship to ports as far as Baltimore. Today it
carries that tradition of hospitality. Boaters: hotel guests
may dock at the Hotel's dock.
The romantic village of Whitehaven is an ideal place for an
intimate wedding or reception.
The Hotel's two dining rooms and parlor can accommodate up
to 50 guests. If the weather permits a tented reception, a
slightly larger event is possible. Additional lodging is
