Maryland Bed and
Breakfast Lodging Directory
|
| Travel,
Lodging, Cooking, Entertainment ... A web site celebrating the
good life! |
| Western
Maryland contains Allegany, Garrett and Washington counties.
It is where you will find picturesque mountains that are
perfect for hiking, biking, and white-water rafting and
kayaking. Deep Creek Lake, the states biggest manmade
body of water, welcomes boaters and water skiers in warm
weather. Its streams and rivers offer great
fly-fishing
spots. Wisp, Marylands
ski
resort, welcomes skiers and tubers in the winter
months. History buffs will want to explore such sites as the
C&O Canal and Antietam National Battlefield. Cumberland
is the biggest town in western Maryland and marks the end of
the 184.5-mile-long C&O Canal that starts in Georgetown.
Green Ridge State Forest offers some of the best mountain
biking in Maryland, but if you like a less rugged route,
travel along the C&O Canal. The tallest waterfall in the
state, Muddy Creek Falls, roars nearby in Swallow Falls
State Park, a favorite campsite of Henry Ford, Thomas
Edison, and Harvey Firestone during the early 1920's.
Backbone Mountain is the tallest point in the state of
Maryland and a marker for the Eastern Continental Divide.
The Cranesville Sub-Arctic Swamp, a strange boreal remnant
of the last Ice Age is the only known such bog in North
America growing outside an arctic region |
