The Scotlaur Inn, a one-time boarding house, is located atop
the world-famous Chick and Ruth's Delly, a family-owned and
operated restaurant that sits right in the middle of
Annapolis, Maryland's historic district. The building that
houses the deli was built on its now-historic foundation in
1901. Chick Levitt and his wife, Ruth, bought the building in
1965 and opened their now-famous deli that same year.
Back then, there were twelve rooms and two
bathrooms on the second and third floors above the deli. This
"Ma and Pa" establishment evolved into an Annapolis
tradition, with the Levitts' three children a common sight --
working behind the counter, waiting tables, washing dishes,
and performing various other restaurant duties.
One of their children, Ted, took over the
family business and with the help of Chick rebuilt and
remodeled the second- and third-floor accommodations in 1986.
The reconstruction configured into ten rooms, and Ted and his
wife, Beth, combined those accommodations with the first-floor
deli to form a unique bed and breakfast that they've named
after their own children, Scott and Lauren. This is also a
Wifi hot spot.
Each of the Scotlaur Inn's 10 beautifully
decorated rooms has a private bath and comes with a range of
amenities, including color television, telephone, hair dryer,
iron and ironing board, and central heat and air conditioning.
Ted, a graduate of the Culinary Institute
of America, puts his expertise to good use in the deli, which
is open seven days a week. This unique deli serves not only
large helpings of delicious food, but also huge quantities of
genuine friendship that have lasted throughout the years. A
complimentary breakfast is included with most room
reservations.
Chick's love and concern for people led to
his and Ruth's dream of operating an historic bed and
breakfast. The memories of Chick and Ruth live on with Ted and
Beth. They look forward to continuing to serve wholesome food,
friendship, and quality lodging. |
Annapolis, an historical seaport that
overlooks Chesapeake Bay, has often been described as the "sailing
capital of the world." Home to the U.S. Naval Academy,
Annapolis is Maryland's state capital, once the capital of the
United States in the 1700's. Washington D.C., Annapolis'
successor is just 25 minutes away, as is Baltimore.
There's plenty to see and do without
leaving Annapolis, however. Here, you will find what is
arguably the best rockfishing in the world, and guests of the
Scotlaur Inn are just minutes away from several souvenir shops
and world-class restaurants, as well as the Naval Academy and
the State Capitol Building.
Charter boats provide scenic tours of
Chesapeake Bay, and there are some great hiking trails in
Annapolis for those who like to explore the area's beauty on
foot. Tennis and golf are nearby as well, and once a year,
Annapolis serves as one of the primary stops in the renowned
Round-the-World Boat Race known as the Whitbread. |
