The Egremont Inn

Savor the bygone charm of a 1780 Massachusetts stagecoach stop. The Egremont Inn, a quintessential colonial New England country Inn, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is nestled in a wooded retreat by a calming Berkshire stream.

The oak-beamed living room-lobby was one of the Inn's stables, with the curving brick hearth that once served as the blacksmith's forge.

In 1787, the famous Daniel Shays of "Shays Rebellion" was on his way to the Inn's tavern when the Federal Army routed his men for the last valiant time. A plaque marks the spot of his final battle. During the Civil War, the Inn served admirably as town hall and hospital. Over the next two hundred years, the Inn was greatly enlarged to include modern amenities without sacrificing yesteryear's charm.

All 20 guest rooms and suites have private bathrooms, and the three spacious, first-floor sitting rooms contain wood-burning fireplaces. Accommodations are furnished with antiques, four-posted beds, and wallpaper in eighteenth-century patterns. Relax with a good book, play a game of chess, or watch your favorite sporting event on television.

In addition to lodging, guests enjoy the tavern as well as the dining room for gracious yet comfortable candlelit, fireside dining. The Inn's restaurant, featuring outstanding American cuisine, is considered one of the finest in the Berkshires and offers an award-winning wine list.
