The Summer White House is just a mile from
Tanglewood, in the very heart of historic Lenox in the
Berkshires of Massachusetts. Newly operated by experience
innkeepers, this bed and breakfast continues the hospitality
traditions the Newton's were so known for at the former Gables
Inn.
Called "The Lanai" for its many
inviting porches, the Summer White House is an original
Berkshire Cottage. It was constructed in 1885 for New Yorker,
J. Egmont Schermerhorn. This graceful and comfortable home is
furnished with a fine collection of antiques. The library,
replete with volumes on every subject.
Lavishly decorated in traditional style,
the Bed and Breakfast offers six guest accommodations each
with a private bath, air-conditioning and TV. The stately
guestroom are named after very stately people in history. The
Edith Wilson room, for the reputed first woman to run the
government. (Our 'secret' President). The Eleanor Roosevelt
room offers a stately four poster bed. (shown on the details
page). The Master bedroom is named at Abigail Adams, the 2nd
first lady. The Summer White House is graced with the owners'
collection of fine art which spans five centuries along with
rare documents and books.
Downstairs the sun-filled breakfast room
is a perfect place to start your day. Enjoy a hearty
continental breakfast while planning your visit to Tanglewood
and other nearby attractions. A combination of sunshine,
civility, and Mozart makes this breakfast room baronial--even
by Lenox standards. Join your fellow guests as you indulge in
fresh pastries and intriguing conversation. |
