In 1927, prominent Springfield, MA, industrialist, Robert L. Putnam and his wife Caroline, acquired this property from Georgina Paine Fisher in order to build a summer residence. The house they built on the high ground took advantage of the cool summer breezes and the hill itself. The change of seasons is a wonder to behold on the Inn's 33 wooded acres. In addition, the 4,000 acres of woodlands are made available for public enjoyment by Harvard Forest, The Trustees of Reservations and state forest and parks.
