The Stone Lion Inn of Cape Cod, a Victorian sea captain's
home, was built in 1871. A private residence for over 100
years, the house has operated as a Bed and Breakfast since the
late 1980's.
Situated on a large landscaped lot in Wellfleet's Central
District, the Stone Lion Inn offers guests a variety of
outdoor spaces to enjoy, including a wisteria-covered gazebo,
fish ponds, and hammock. Indoors, guests are welcome to make
themselves at home in the comfortably furnished living room.
There you will find a variety of games and puzzles, a
television, and VCR plus a collection of video tapes for
viewing. Books of local history, plus a variety of fiction and
non-fiction are for you to enjoy during your stay as well as a
swap library in case you finish your book and need another to
take with you.
- The Stone Lion Inn offers three types of accommodations
for guests.
- Bed and
Breakfast Rooms: The house has three cozy
air-conditioned rooms all with queen-size beds and private
baths.
- The
Apartment has its own entrance through the back
courtyard. It is equipped with a small studio kitchen, and
the queen-size bed on the upper level is accessed by a
circular staircase. The lower level has a comfortable living
space plus a large bath/dressing room.
- The
3-bedroom Cottage "Ocean's Favorite",
named for the original owner's ship is great for couples
traveling together or for a family with children. The ground
floor has a dining room, living room with cable television
and VCR, tiled kitchen, and full bathroom. Upstairs are
three bedrooms, two with queen-size beds and one with a twin
bed plus trundle. There is a deck out back with a charcoal
grill and picnic table, a jungle gym for the kids, and an
outdoor shower.
Guests in the bed and breakfast rooms are treated to a full
breakfast including fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, hot
beverages, juice, homemade pastries, and a hot dish prepared
every morning. Vegetarians are easily and happily accommodated
with advance notice.
In the evening, there is often live music at local taverns
and restaurants, and the regional theatre is nationally
recognized for the quality of its productions. If you are
seeking clubs, cabarets, or dancing, you will find all of
these in Provincetown, a 15-minute drive away. Coming in the
off season? You will find a peaceful village perfect for
winter walks, or stay inside and snuggle up with a book or
watch a movie from the inn's eclectic collection. Enjoy a Cape
Cod state of mind at The Stone Lion Inn. |

once a fishing and whaling village, now has much to offer
visitors all year long.
Local galleries represent artists from all over the
world, working in a variety of media from painting to fine
crafts.
Several of the restaurants in town have been written up
in Gourmet and other food magazines, and, of course,
there are beautiful sandy beaches for swimming or strolling.
Much of Wellfleet is National Seashore, and there are
walking and biking trails for those so inclined, plus a
variety of sea and shore birds.
Tennis, golf, and boating are a short walk or ride away,
and there are bicycles for rent at two locations in town. |
