Turn back the pages of history and enjoy a
resplendent era at Penrose Victorian Inn, an "Elegant
lodging experience" nestled in Haydenville,
Massachusetts, only ten minutes from downtown Northampton and
in The Heart of The Five College College Area - Smith, Mount
Holyoke, Amherst, and Hampshire Colleges and the University of
Massachusetts.
Penrose was voted "Best Bed and
Breakfast in the Northeast" and "Best Near a College
or University" by Arrington's Bed and Breakfast Journal. "Be
pampered in a home of warm hospitality."
All spacious guest rooms are
air-conditioned and have large private baths. Each guest room
has its own personality. The Bride's Room in the front tower
features an ornate crystal table chandelier found in Jerome,
Arizona, a former Arizona mining town. Set off by large ornate
windows, a fireplace, and antiques, The Eleanor Purrington
Room is named after the lady of the house in 1900. The Painted
Lady Room is just that, an exciting array of pink and lavender
colors.
It was Wilbur and Eleanor Purrington who
had the Victorian vision to lift up the entire house to create
a new first floor with high, stately ceilings in 1900.
Showered in Victorian details and carefully chosen paintings
and antique pieces, the Parlor's elegance remains the same as
it did back then. The magnificent fireplace is set off by tall
Corinthian columns featuring ornate ram's head capitals. The
Music Room showcases a turn-of-the-century pump organ, a
Victorian doll house built by Nancy's father, antiques, and,
of course, a fireplace. The formal dining room, with its
Strauss crystal chandelier, fireplace, grandfather clock, and
leaded glass china cabinets, has hosted many special
occasions. Going up the stairs to the second floor, you pass
by yesteryear pictures of the Zimmer's relatives. |
A full breakfast is served every morning at
the Penrose. Savor freshly brewed coffee as you dine by
candlelight on divine breakfast fare.
Penrose offers an inviting array of things
to do for all of its guests. Stroll through the fountain
garden, play croquet, lie on the hammock, swim in the pool, or
just relax with a good book on the comfortable front porch.
Those wanting a more active vacation may want to survey the
landscape with a hike or a bike through the countryside. Some
guests will want to venture ten minutes to Northampton, famous
for its dining, entertainment, arts and crafts, and annual
film festival. |
