The Victorian romance of The Oliver Inn Bed and Breakfast
reflects the lives and times of South Bend, Indiana's most
famous families with lodging hospitality as gracious as its
history.
The home celebrates the Studebakers (wagons and automobiles)
and the Olivers (the world-famous Oliver Chilled Plow and
tractors). While Clem Studebaker was busy in August of 1896
building the foundation for his castle/home, "Tippecanoe
Place", James Oliver acquired the adjoining property.
Here he built a spacious 10,000-square-foot "Queen Anne"
style home and had it gifted along with its one-acre grounds
to his daughter, Josephine Oliver Ford, for "$1.00 and
LOVE."
Recommended and rated by Select Registry (formerly known as
IIA), today's guests can choose from an array of beautifully
furnished rooms, each with private bath, phone, and TV.
Several rooms feature the warmth of a built-in fireplace or a
Jacuzzi for two, and all lodging accommodations promise a
sunny view of South Bend's magnificent historical district.
Warm and inviting, the Oliver's richly decorated library is
known locally for its baby grand piano with computerized disk
player offering guests the choice of popular, country, jazz,
or classical music for any occasion or mood. Keep warm around
the fire, play games, or take the opportunity to learn more
about Northern Indiana history as you browse through the
picture books that tell its story.
A convenient hotel alternative, The Inn is conveniently
located within walking distance of South Bend's business
district as well as its most outstanding historical
attractions such as the Copshaholm Museum, the Northern
Indiana Center for History, the Studebaker Museum, and the
College Football Hall of Fame.
At the Oliver Inn, guests will experience the glow of the
Waterford crystal sconces, the beautifully restored maple
flooring, and the hand-crafted spiraling staircase which is
highlighted by the Inn's "guardian angel." |
From the moment you pull into its stately circular drive and
up to the grand porte-cochere, the Oliver Inn will gently
nudge you back into the grandeur of another time. Shaded by
more than 30 tall maple trees, this 25-room estate is one of
South Bend's most treasured local historical landmarks and was
home to the Oliver families for over 100 years.
The Oliver Inn also caters to the business traveler with
unrestricted use of private phones, FAX, and free high speed
wireless Internet. There are also private rooms available for
meetings and conferences. Additionally, The Oliver Inn is an
ideal site for weddings, rehearsal dinners, and any occasion
that might bring family and friends together. Included in your
rates is a complimentary full candlelight breakfast.
Complimentary snacks and beverages are also available in the
Butler's Pantry 24 hours a day. |
