Indiana's Leavenworth Inn is a cozy and comfortable country
inn consisting of two beautifully renovated turn of the
century homes with a sizeable history. The main house was
built in the late 1800's by W.J. Sacksteder, who called it "Forest
Grove Farm." In 1937, a great flood submerged the town.
After the flood, the then-owner donated the land for the new
town of Leavenworth to be built up on the hill around the
present Inn site.
The Leavenworth Inn has been fully modernized with central
air conditioning, computer data links, business telephones,
and a video library with both current releases and classic
movies. Eleven beautifully decorated, antique-filled guest
bedrooms contain luxurious down comforters and linens to
pamper every guest. Each lodging accommodation is outfitted
with a telephone, armoire with television and VCR, and private
bath with toiletries and hair dryer. Ask about the king room
with a fireplace or the romantic Jacuzzi suite with a private
sitting room.
Amenities don't end with the guest rooms. The Inn offers a
workout room equipped with a Stairmaster, Schwinn Airdyne
bicycle, Trotter treadmill, and Vectra free weights. The cozy
walnut-paneled library with a large old-fashioned brick
fireplace is perfect for relaxing, games, impromptu
conversations, and reading. Shelves are stocked with New
York Times best-sellers. French doors open to an outside
deck designed for leisurely dining and peaceful respite.
In the beautiful dining room, furnished with country pine
from England, guests may enjoy freshly baked cookies, coffee,
tea, and orange juice. Breakfast is provided at The Overlook
Restaurant, which is within walking distance of the Inn. Lunch
and dinner are also available at The Overlook, which has a
spectacular view that scans Horseshoe Bend and 20 miles of the
Ohio River.
The Leavenworth Inn, a fine hotel alternative, is ideal for
business conventions, special celebrations, and family
reunions. The Garden Gazebo is great for weddings! Your hosts
invite you to come and join them for a memorable stay. |
In the early 1900's, there was a large cupola on the roof
that was used to oversee the grape vineyards, which were
located in fields where downtown Leavenworth now sits. As many
as seven or eight cisterns, which were used to wash the
grapes, surrounded the house. The winemaking vats extended
from the 12-foot-deep basement up through the main floor. An
old wine cellar still exists in the basement.
At the Inn, enjoy a game of tennis or horseshoes, walking
and bicycle paths, and relaxing rocking chairs overlooking the
river. Stroll through Leavenworth and visit the Overlook Gift
Shop, the Arts and Crafts Gallery, antique stores, and
Stephenson's General Store. Fish and canoe on Blue River and
at Patoka Lake, or hike along many paths or swim at the
Harrison-Crawford State Forest. Explore one of the many caves
in Crawford Country, including Wyandotte Cave and Marengo
Cave, both less than 15 minutes away. You can also visit
historic Corydon, Indiana's first state capital, or play a
round of golf at nearby Old Capital Golf Club. For a fun day
trip, Louisville, Kentucky, home of the Kentucky Derby, is
only 35 minutes away. Also, Holiday World and Splashin'
Safari, voted the #1 Cleanest, #1 Friendliest amusement park
in the world, is only 35 minutes away. |
