Former Congressman & Mrs. Lee H. Hamilton U.S. Representative, Indiana Specialty Recipe Pecan Pie

(One of the three kinds of pies requested each Thanksgiving by the Hamilton family members. The others are usually blueberry and apple. The favorite way to eat them is a small slice of each... a-la-mode for Lee.)

Ingredients

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup margarine

1 cup light corn syrup

3 eggs

1 cup pecans (I like them whole)

1/4 teaspoon salt (if desired)

Cream sugar and butter; add syrup and salt; beat well; beat in eggs one at a time; add pecans. Pour into a 9-inch pastry-lined pie pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until knife comes out clean.
