Set in a wooded volcano village only one mile from Volcanoes
National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii, Kilauea Lodge.
Lodging accommodations at Kilauea Lodge include rooms and
cottages, each with the comfort of a private bath. Four rooms
with Volcano art and flowers, colorful comforters, and
fireplaces are featured in Hale Maluna, the remodeled
original building. The newest building, Hale Aloha, is
equipped with central heating and a spacious common room with
fireplace and library. Guests also have their choice of the
Honeymoon Deluxe Room, with wood-burning fireplace,
balcony, double showers, and a romantic four-poster king-sized
bed; an intimate one-room cottage with gas fireplace; Tutu's
Place, a two-bedroom cottage featuring a kitchen, gas
fireplace, porch, and large garden; or Pi'i Mauna Cottage,
a two-bedroom cottage located at the Volcano Golf Course and
featuring a kitchen, porch, hot tub, and gas fireplace.
In the morning, a complimentary full breakfast is served to
guests in the main lodge dining room. Lodge guests cap their
volcano day with dinner at "A superb restaurant only a
stone's throw from your pillow... "(Condé
Nast, November 1990) Hardwood floors, koa tables, fresh
flowers, original art, and, at the center of it all, the
historic Fireplace of Friendship with its precious collection
of artifacts provide the setting for fabulous dinners served
nightly. Owner-chef Albert offers a menu which reflects a
marriage of his European background and local flavors. The
menu is a cornucopia of fish, fowl, and beef entrees served by
a helpful dining room staff. A thoughtful wine list and
homemade desserts complete the gustatory experience.
The Lodge also serves as an excellent base for exploring
Big Island. Hilo, famed for its tropical lushness, quaint
storefronts, and cascading waterfalls, is only 35 minutes
away. Black sand beaches and clear lagoons grace Hilo's
Keaukaha shoreline. You may tour a tropical rainforest, visit
anthurium and macadamia nut farms, or steep yourself in
Hawaiian history at Lyman Museum. |
Built in 1938 for the YMCA, Hale o Aloha was a gracious
ten-acre retreat. Thousands of youngsters experienced
Kilauea's wonders by day and, warmed by the lodge fireplace,
told Pele myths by night. Bought by Lorna and Albert Jeyte in
1986, the lodge buildings were refurbished to welcome visitors
from all over the world. The guest rooms reflect up-country
charm with a commitment to warmth and peacefulness.
Kilauea Lodge is located only minutes away from the
spectacular Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. A full day's
activities, including hiking, bird watching, picnicking, and
volcano viewing lie ahead. At the Information Center, you can
view volcano films and learn more about the majesty of nature.
The Jagger Museum also provides explanations of volcanic
behavior. The Volcano Art Center offers locally crafted gifts
and artwork for your perusal and enjoyment.
The staff at Kilauea Lodge looks forward to helping you plan
your Volcano adventure! |
