| The
Island of Maui is a little more laid back than the Big
Island, but it vacation value is unbeatable.
Beachside
condos and cottages offer early morning swims in the
ocean or a round of
golf
overlooking the ocean. From the timeless grandeur of
Haleakala Crater to the historic charm of 19th Century
Lahaina, Maui offers a wealth of historic and cultural
attractions. The town of Lahaina is a National Historic
District, with timeless charm and a variety of important
historic sites that take you back to the days when the town
was an important whaling port. History buffs will also find
that the Lahaina-Kaanapali and Pacific Railroads provide an
unforgettable journey into the areas romantic
plantation past. From December to April magnificent humpback
whales can be spotted as they migrate from their feeding
grounds along the Alaskan coast to the warm, sheltered
waters of the Hawaiian Islands. Maui tour boat operators
offer seasonal whalewatching cruises. Surrounded by 120
miles of coastline, Maui boasts over thirty miles of
beaches. Many are easily accessible beach parks with
lifeguards, picnic facilities and restrooms. Most all of the
beaches are white sand, but there are black and red sand
beaches on the island too. Surfing, snorkeling, kayaking and
just beaching are fabulous on this island. |
