Arvilla's Shortcake

Ingredients

2 cups flour

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 Tablespoon baking powder

6 Tablespoons shortening

3/4 cup milk

2 Tablespoons sugar

Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar into mixing bowl. Cut in shortening thoroughly until mixture looks like cornmeal. Add milk, all at once; blend quickly. Dough should be light and soft. Knead lightly and briefly on a floured board. Roll to 1/2-inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter. Sprinkle top with sugar. Bake on greased cookie sheet for 10 to 12 minutes at 450 degrees.

Note: Instead of cutting in biscuit shape, you can roll as one piece on cookie sheet and cut into squares after baking.
