Known as the "Jewel
of the South," the town of Lookout Mountain is perched atop
Lookout Mountain, which is also home to such attractions as Rock
City Gardens, Cloudland Canyon State Park and Ruby Falls.
The City of Lookout
Mountain, Georgia and Lookout Mountain, Tennessee both perch atop
a mountain which has been a constant landmark in a constantly
changing world. Until the mid-1800's the mountain was called
'Chatanuga', a Cherokee word meaning 'mountains looking at each
other'. The early pioneers warned each other to 'lookout' when
traversing the rapids below the mountain for warring Indians and
marauding pirates. |
Rock City atop the
mountain, just 6 miles from downtown Chattanooga, is a true marvel
of nature featuring massive ancient rock formations, gardens with
over 400 native plant species and breathtaking panoramic views
where you can see 7 states from the same location. Take an
unforgettable journey along the Enchanted Trail where each step
reveals natural beauty and wonders along the woodland path.
Experience fairytale magic at Fairyland Caverns and Mother Goose
Village with gift shops and restaurant. |
