Athens located in Clarke
County in the northeastern part of Georgia, is home to the
University of Georgia, one of the most active and beautiful
universities in the South. Known as the "Classic City,"
Athens resides along side the Oconee River.
Athens is also known for its local railroad trestle, featured
on the back cover of R.E.M.'s first album, "Murmurs."
When the trestle was threatened with demolition, R.E.M. fans
rallied to save it.
Ranked No. 15 on the Best Places to Live and Work in America
list 2002, Athens is a wonderful place to visit with its many
mountainous streams and rivers, lakes and woods that surround this
