Staying in the heart of Provence at l' Auberge du Presbytère
leaves no guest indifferent. The once fortified village of
Saignon is perched on the west face of the Luberon mountains,
three kilometers above the city of Apt at an altitude of five
hundred meters. The Presbytère was created by
integrating three buildings with tenth- and eleventh-century
foundations. Located on the well-preserved village square, the
buildings lie within a perimeter of protected historic
monuments.
Located in the middle of Luberon Regional Park, Saignon is a
newly-discovered favorite among tourists around the world.
Today the Auberge is internationally known and appreciated
particularly for its size, hospitality, interior architecture
atypical of traditional hotels, and guest rooms, all decorated
in a different regional style.
There are twelve guest rooms that grace Auberge du Presbytère,
each with a different but delicate decor. All rooms feature
private baths. Several have terraces with spectacular views
over the valley and the village square, allowing you to open
your doors each morning to postcard-perfect beauty. If you
prefer something a bit larger, one salon room with an
enchanting fireplace and full bath is available as well.
For two hours in the morning, Auberge du Presbytère
provides a delicious continental-plus breakfast. During the
colder months, breakfast is served in the dining room and
winter garden, but warmer months take guests outside on the
terrace to savor their meal over a scenic village backdrop.
For lunch and dinner, the renowned Restaurant du Presbytère
is located on the property, guided by the talent of Chef
Philippe Rubat. Well-known for his sensational cooking, the
chef features traditional French and Provençal cuisine
in a multiple choice menu throughout the year plus Carte in
high season. Specialities include "Gâteau d'Agneau",
a baked lamb and eggplant dish, the "Poule aux Olives"
and the "RuchAmandier", a unique pastry blending
lavender honey, almonds and fresh cream topped on vanilla ice
cream.
Make sure to reserve enough time to capture the splendor of
Luberon. In the category "Auberge de charme"
equivalent of three stars, Auberge du Presbytère is
much more than a French chateau: it's the occasion of a
lifetime. |
French Country antiques are well known; less known is the
region's contribution with sites such as l' Isle sur la
Sorgue, where merchants and interior designers come from
around the world to find rare pieces for their collections.
Numerous "village square" markets and exhibits such
as the Sunday morning antique market in Coustellet are well
worth the trip. The Saturday morning market in Apt, perhaps
the largest and most colorful of Provence's treasures,
attracts international shoppers.
The Luberon Regional Park has recently been discovered as
well by international travellers from Japan to New Zealand
(and, of course, Europe). The seasons in Luberon are a wonder
to behold. Nature walks, mountain biking and climbing, and
Luberon's unique natural environment are just a sampling of
the activities available to a guest of Auberge. |
