| The
Central Eastcoast of Florida is an exciting blend of
beaches, golf courses and space ports. Cape Canaveral and
the Kennedy Space center is the launch point for most of
America's spacecraft. Kennedy Space Center offers an
impressive array of rocket displays and tours. Daytona Beach
is world renowned for its beach, achieved unique fame from
its 23-mile, 500-foot-wide beach which served as a speedway
in the early days of the automobile. Many speed records were
set on this beach in years past. Today it is one of the
finest motor-racing facilities in the country where many
auto and motorcycle races are held including the famous
Daytona 500. Daytona Beach consists of two distinct regions.
The "beach side" barrier peninsula along the
Atlantic Ocean is separated from the "mainland" to
the east by the Halifax River. The Inland Waterway boasts
picnic grounds, an environmental footpath, and a launch ramp
for your boat or jet ski. The famous Flagler Beach Pier is
an inviting place to stroll,
fish,
or relax, and the winding boardwalk at Flagship Harbor is an
ideal place to view the scenery. Indialantic sits next to
one of the largest sea turtle nesting areas in the world,
and from June to September, you can bear witness to
300-pound turtles braving the seashell-scattered beaches to
lay their eggs. |
