The Chickadee Cottage vacation rental is tucked away on four gorgeous acres in the northeast corner of rural Connecticut, known as the "Quiet Corner."

The community of Putnam, New England's antique mecca, is just five miles down the road, and the cottage itself is bordered by a seemingly endless stretch of state walking trails and permanently open land. Chickadee Cottage is convenient to New York City (3 hours), Boston (1-1/4 hours), and Hartford (45 minutes).

With easy access to Route 395, the Carriage House and the Lower Nest Cottage are wonderful furnished corporate or vacation rentals available by the week or the month. These large lodging accommodations boast separate entrances, and one features a sundeck filled with plants. Inside each accommodation you will find living area with sofa bed and gas-log woodstove, and kitchenette.

Much of what makes staying here so special, though, is all of northeast Connecticut's natural beauty. A drive down Route 169, a National Scenic Byway, will provide many a "Kodak moment", and all of the nature trails that flank the Chickadee property are a dream come true for hikers, joggers, bikers, and cross-country skiers.

Antique aficionados will delight in the more than 400 dealers located in nearby Putnam.

Other points of interest include the Sharpe Hill Vineyard, known not only for its award-winning wines, but also for its gourmet terrace lunches and fire-side dinners, and Martha's Herbary, a local herbary that offers unusual garden ornaments, scents, and books.

The region's best-kept secret may very well be the 667-acre Audubon Nature Sanctuary, located just next door to the Chickadee Cottage.
