In the fall of 1639, Roger
Ludlow, one of the founders of the colony of Connecticut, led a
small group of men and a large herd of cattle to the shore of Long
Island Sound. At a place known to the local Indians as Unquowa,
they established a settlement that became known as Fairfield,
named for the hundreds of acres of salt marsh that bordered the
coast.
Today Fairfield offers
visitors a great places to stay, history to explore, and
harborside recreation. This picturesque town shares its history,
its beauty and its quaint, quiet village shops and great dining.
Money Magazine rated Fairfield #9 on its 'Best Places to Live"
in the United States list. There are over 81 golf courses within
30 miles of Fairfield, 15 museums and 1,900 restaurants within 15
