Step back in time and enjoy the splendor of yesteryear in
the magnificent Deacon Timothy Pratt Bed and Breakfast Inn, a
c.1746 center chimney Colonial in the heart of Old Saybrook's
historic and shopping districts. The New England house, listed
on the National Historic Register, was built by Deacon Timothy
Pratt and served as a private school in the 1790's. Timothy
Pratt was a carpenter and served as a Deacon in the church
across the street, thus its present day name.
This charming home boasts many fine original details,
including original wide-board floors and hand-hewn beams,
wainscoting, a corner cupboard, beehive oven, and six working
fireplaces.
The guest rooms are romantically furnished in period style,
with each lodging featuring four-poster and canopy beds,
working fireplaces, Jacuzzi whirlpool tubs, cable television,
phone/modem lines, stereo/CD players, air conditioning,
comfortable sitting areas, and private baths. Two suites have
both a queen-size bed plus twin bed. The main house is
equipped with high speed wireless Internet.
A formal candlelight breakfast is served in the elegant
dining room with fireplace on fine china. Spring, summer and
fall relax in the picturesque yard with pretty gardens,
inviting sitting areas, a handsome two century-old maple tree
with swing, a three-tier fountain, and two-person hammock. In
the winter lounge by the fire in the parlor, visit with
friends and enjoy complimentary spring water, sherry, tea and
snacks. A guest refrigerator is available, and massage therapy
is on premises.
Located in the heart of the historic district on a
beautifully gas-lit Main Street, the Bed and Breakfast is a
short walk to quaint shops, restaurants, coffeehouses with
entertainment, three spas, churches, scenic north cove, say
brook point park, and town green activities. It is next door
to old-fashioned ice-cream parlor and gift shop and across the
street from an old house museum and pillared white church.
This is a beautiful area for walking, bicycling, antiquing,
kayaking, canoeing, and scenic drives along the Connecticut
River and Long Island Sound. It is just one mile to beaches,
two lighthouses, a historic walking park, waterfront dining,
sight-seeing cruises, golf, and mini-golf. Beach passes, maps
and advice are provided. |
Bordered on two sides by the Connecticut River and Long
Island Sound, Old Saybrook embodies the spirit of a charming,
small New England town with a rich seafaring tradition. The
Inn is near Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos, Clinton and
Westbrook Factory Outlet Malls, Mystic Seaport and Aquarium,
Essex Steam Train and Riverboat, Gillette Castle State Park,
Chamard Vineyards, and Florence Griswold museum, as well as
numerous antique shops, museums, playhouses, wineries, spas,
state parks, golf, tennis, and charming New England Villages
to explore. Your hosts have a wealth of knowledge about the
area and are happy to share it with you. |
