The spirit of the Old West is alive and well in downtown
Durango. The Rochester Hotel and Leland House Bed and
Breakfast offer distinctive overnight lodging in historic
downtown Durango, Colorado.
The newly renovated Rochester Hotel, built circa 1892,
offers 15 spacious rooms with high ceilings and full baths,
decorated in an Old West motif. The decor was inspired by the
many Western movies filmed in and around Durango, Colorado.
Movie posters framed in marquee lights line the hallways: Across
the Wide Missouri, Around the World in Eighty Days, and
City Slickers amongst them.
The Leland House offers ten charming rooms in a lovingly
restored two-story brick apartment building built in 1927.
Each accommodation is named after an historic figure
associated with the Leland House; the interior decor is
accented with photos, memorabilia, and framed, written
biographies of these important figures. Six of the rooms are
actually three-room suites, and all rooms have kitchen
facilities and private baths.
Every morning, a complimentary, gourmet breakfast is served
to guests in the lobby of the Rochester Hotel. Breakfasts
feature home-made muffins, scones, and coffee cakes, oatmeal
or granola, and a selection of fresh fruit. Cranberry scones
and home-made granola are the house specialties. Breakfasts
also include a daily hot entree made fresh for you when you
arrive in the morning.
For those who have a slightly quieter agenda in mind, you
can tour the historic districts of Durango or browse through
the many fine shops, galleries, and outlet stores in and
around Durango, all within walking distance of the hotel. You
can also take advantage of the off-street parking when you
ride the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.
The Rochester Hotel and Leland House Bed and Breakfast
suites offer the warmth and comfort of a country inn with the
convenience of a downtown hotel. |
The city of Durango offers a variety of activities to keep
you busy. The classic Durango and Silverton Narrow-Gauge
Railroad has become highly recognizable as a famous prop in
many Western movies filmed here like How the West Was Won
and Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, to name a few.
Not too far away you can visit the ever-popular Mesa Verde
National Park. You can raft, kayak, and fish the numerous
rivers, streams, and lakes in and around the Four Corners
area. Feel free to hike, mountain bike, and cross-country ski
the many mountain trails around Durango. Especially suited for
families, Durango Mountain Resort offers over 600 acres of
maintained ski terrain -- 150 acres of it groomed -- and ten
chair lifts, including a new high-speed quad. |
