Located in the spectacular Rocky Mountains,
Harmel's Ranch Resort offers a wide variety of lodging
accommodations matched by a full array of activities to make
this vacation destination a memorable one for the entire
family
Harmel's Ranch Resort is a family mountain
guest ranch located at the merging of Spring Creek and the
magnificent Taylor River in Gunnison County, Colorado. At an
altitude of 8,412 feet, the ranch is made up of 300 acres of
trees, water, and meadowland lying in a beautiful valley
surrounded by 1.6 million acres of the Gunnison National
Forest.
History and
comfort... Harmel's was originally homesteaded
by wagon train in the 1890's. Today, the ranch boasts 37
cabins with all the amenities (stables, dining room, laundry
facilities, rec room, hot tub, sauna, swimming pool,
conference area, etc.). The unique cabins were built one at a
time, placed in the perfect spot for size, and numbered
accordingly.
Cabin #1, for instance, has been renovated
to be used as the ranch's store and fly shop. Take a look
around when you visit the store; you'll notice it was built
with an axe -- now a lost art. Your hosts have kept the rustic
look on the outside of the cabins while turning the interiors
into clean and comfortable cottages, many with kitchens.
A river runs
through... Taylor River runs through the camp,
offering a romantic mountain setting and fantastic fishing.
The ranch's 3/4 mile of river has been rated 10x Gold Medal
quality. Here you can catch Rainbows, Cutthroat, Browns, and
Brookies -- Grand Slam fishing! Harmel's strong suit, however,
is their Western hospitality. They pride themselves on being
able to say "Yes" to you. Come take in the fresh
mountain air, beautiful scenery, and abundant wildlife
Hearty
menus... The dining room, with its newly
refinished floors and rustic decor of antiques, overlooks the
Taylor River. You'll be able to see people fly fishing on the
river and hundreds of hummingbirds sipping sugar water from
the feeders. Three delicious meals per day are available, with
at least one buffet daily, including the expansive chuckwagon
dinners. The menu offers a varied choice of entrees, from
hearty charcoal-broiled steaks to delicious fresh fish or
vegetarian dishes. They really feed you like a king at

Activities...
are plentiful at Harmel's Ranch Resort and are designed for
flexibility and fun. Enjoy horseback riding, mountain biking
(bring your own bike), fly fishing, BBQ & steak cookouts,
horseshoes, square dancing, hayrides, whitewater rafting,
massage therapy, hiking, movies on the big-screen television,
and other events throughout the spring and summer months. All
of this and more are offered right on the ranch, with no
driving required. Your hosts strive to make your vacation as
stress-free as possible.
Horseback
riding... Extensive horse programs offer
options from a one-hour learning ride to guided trail riding
throughout the week, with three different riding levels
(beginner, intermediate, and advanced) as well as overnight
pack trips and all-day wilderness rides available. From the
youngest buckaroo (must be 7 years of age) to the most
weathered cowboy, Harmel's has a mount and a program for your
horseback riding pleasure!
