Steamboat Springs is an
internationally known winter ski resort with the Steamboat Ski
Resort on Mount Werner in the Park Range just east of town. It
also contains the much smaller Howelsen ski area, located in the
upper valley of the Yampa River, west of the continental divide at
Rabbit Ears Pass.
Steamboat is renowned for
raising more Olympic skiers than any other place in America. The
nickname "Ski Town USA" is only natural. This
quintessential Western town has kept its old-fashioned charm
despite its fame. |
Even though Steamboat is
known for its skiing in the winter there are many things to do in
the summer. Each summer, the town hosts its Rainbow Weekend, with
a multitude of colorful balloons rising over the valley, offering
riders indescribable views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains. The
alpine climate fosters numerous outdoor activities including
fly-fishing, horseback riding, hiking, biking, balloon rides, a
soak in the hot springs and pro rodeo performances every summer
weekend.
Local area attractions
include Strawberry Park Hot Springs, Steamboat Hot Springs,
Stagecoach State Park, Steamboat Lake State Park, Fish Creek Falls
and of course the Steamboat Ski Resort. |
