Located high in the Rocky Mountains,
Snowmass, Aspen's sister resort, has slowly become its own
thriving mini town. Ranked No. 11 in Worth magazine's list of 250
Richest Towns in 2002, Snowmass has become a year around vacation
spot for active people.
Snowmass Village is best known as
one of the top ski resorts in the nation, but it also has the
honor of being the birthplace of such renowned summer festivals as
the Aspen Food & Wine Classic and Jazz Aspen Snowmass. Each
June, Snowmass hosts the highest altitude Balloon Festival in the
country.
Nearby, the Fryingpan River is a
fisherman's paradise. Other area activities available in the
summer are chairlift rides, music festivals, golf, hiking, biking,
fishing, horseback riding, rafting, kayaking, balloon rides, and
4-wheel drive excursions. Winter activities include skiing,
snowboarding, tubing, snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, 10th
Mountain Division hut tours, sledding, dogsled rides, sleighrides,
and snowmobiling.
Local area attractions include the
ghost towns of Ashcroft and Independence, Maroon Bells, Maroon
Lake, Wheeler Opera House and of course Aspen and Snowmass Ski
