Denver is nicknamed the "Mile-High
City", because its official elevation, measured on the
fifteenth step of the state capitol building, is 5,280 feet above
sea level.
The city is located on the
plains just east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, which
form a dramatic and awe inspiring skyline to the west.
Denver contains numerous
world-class tourist attractions, including the Denver Zoo, the
Downtown Aquarium, Larimer Square, the Denver Botanic Gardens, and
the Six Flags Elitch Gardens Theme Park. Beyond the city, Colorados
National Forests provide miles of wilderness areas for river
running, hiking, fishing, camping, horseback riding, and
exploring, while in the Rocky Mountains you can ski from November
to June. |
