Originally a mining camp town
frequented by outlaws such as Butch Cassidy and Billy the Kid,
Crested Butte now attracts bikers and skiers from all over the
world. On the National Register of Historic Places since 1974,
it's antique lamp-lit downtown is an eclectic mix of boldly
painted faux-front buildings and miner's shacks.
Among mountain climbers
and avid skiers, Crested Butte is known as a place where anyone
can find the right challenge - whether its the resorts
innovative QuickStart beginners program, inviting
intermediate bowls and non-threatening glades, or the double-black
diamond Extreme Limits, the finest adventure skiing in the Rocky
Mountains. The countrys best and boldest skiers and
snowboarders gather in Crested Butte each year for national
extreme skiing and snowboarding championships.
Crested Butte was ranked No. 4 on "50
Best Places to Live" list by Men's Journal magazine,
2002. |
