The Artists' Inn and Cottage, gracefully
situated in the beautiful city of South Pasadena, offers
comfortable accommodations surrounded by an atmosphere of
nostalgia and history.
C.R. Johnson built this charming farmhouse
in the Victorian style of his native Indiana for his family
when they settled here in 1892. Around the turn of the
century, Peter Mason refurbished the house with picture
moldings from his manufacturing company. They distinguish the
home to this day.
In 1989, interior designer Janet Marangi
acquired the home and started a loving restoration. Her goal
was to create an Inn that would recall the heritage of the
Johnson's farmhouse, old Pasadena, and a more relaxed way of
life.
Original art, rich fabrics, and fresh
flowers fill the Inn. The living room's cozy fireplace and
luxurious Oriental rug invite you to linger over a book,
magazine, game, or puzzle. Each of the ten guest rooms (four
are suites) is enhanced with furnishings, prints, and
paintings reflecting a different artist or period. Van Gogh,
Georgia O'Keefe, Gauguin, Degas, and Grandma Moses are just
some of the world-renowned artists represented in these
accommodations. Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by the
innkeepers and given a tour of the Inn, which is yours to
enjoy. At any time during your stay, information about local
sights, assistance in planning activities, and help in
securing restaurant or theater reservations is available for
your convenience.
Breakfast is prepared using only the
freshest ingredients and may include fresh fruit and juice,
homemade muffins and granola, specialty hot entrees, freshly
ground coffee, and tea. You may choose something light or
indulge in a full breakfast. The morning fare is served in the
dining room or on the front porch, overlooking an abundant
rose garden, if the weather is nice. Complimentary English
afternoon tea is also offered on the front porch or in the
living room, a wonderful time to socialize or catch up on a
good read. |
