Overlooking San Diego's scenic Glorietta Bay and just a
block from the Pacific Ocean, the Glorietta Bay Inn is located
on beautiful Coronado Island.
Designed in 1906 by architect Harrison Albright and
completed in 1908 as the home of "Sugar Baron" John
Dietrich Spreckels, the historic mansion was opened as a hotel
in the 1950's. In 1997, the Inn received the Golden Hibiscus
Award from the City of Coronado for Excellence in Historic
Renovation and today combines old-world charm with
contemporary comfort to provide intimate and affordable
accommodations.
The Edwardian style of the Mansion arouses a sense of
history and of grandeur. The building boasts many of its
original fixtures, including chandeliers, sconces, ornate
moldings, marble stairs, and brass banisters. There are many
places in which to sit and relax, including the sun-warmed
lobby, sitting porches, and the music room, complete with a
baby grand player piano, guest library, and board games.
The Mansion itself houses eleven bedrooms and suites,
including the 1,000-square-foot Penthouse Suite, accessible by
the original two-person elevator. Surrounding the historic
mansion are 89 guest accommodations. There are six
contemporary poolside rooms, 18 bayview rooms (two with
kitchenettes), and seven suites with full kitchens. All rooms
feature private baths, heating and air conditioning, high
speed Internet access, and free HBO, and DVD players.
Contemporary rooms also have refrigerator and coffee service.
Guests also enjoy concierge service, guest laundry facilities,
and business center.
Each morning, a continental breakfast is served in the
Mansion's charming Verandah Room, just off the lobby.
Breakfast includes a generous selection of fresh baked breads,
muffins, and pastries as well as seasonal fresh fruit, yogurt,
assorted cereals, oatmeal, bagels, orange juice, hot coffee,
and tea. Enjoy your breakfast in the Music Room or on the
patio overlooking Glorietta Bay. In the afternoon, lemonade
and cookies are served, and fresh fruit, coffee, and tea are
available all day.
After breakfast, enjoy the heated swimming pool and therapy
spa on the premises.
Independently owned and operated, the Inn's staff is
committed to your comfort and enjoyment. Whenever your plans
take you to Coronado or San Diego, you'll always want to
return to Glorietta Bay Inn. |
To see historic Coronado Island you can embark on a
docent-led walking tour, which takes place Tuesday, Thursday,
and Saturday beginning at the Music Room of Glorietta Bay Inn.
If you can't wait to hit the beach, Coronado's 1.5-mile
stretch of Southern California sand is only one block away.
Also within waking distance is a championship bayside 18-hole
golf course, bike rentals, parks, tennis, sailing, world-class
dining, shopping, and professional theater.
The surrounding San Diego area offers such attractions as
Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Old Town, Wild Animal Park, and Lego
Land, and Mexico is only a 20-minute drive away.
