One of California's premier bed and
breakfast Inns, the 1857 landmark brick mansion is the only
authentically preserved Gothic Revival building in Nevada
City's Historic District.
From the seclusion of its forested hillside
the Inn affords unsurpassed views of the quaint goldrush
community filled with antique shops, museums, theaters,
restaurants, and historic buildings, yet is only footsteps
away from the business district.
Winding footpaths lit by romantic fairy
lights meander through one and a half acres of terraced rustic
landscape dotted with fragrant English roses, fountain ponds,
secluded nooks and koi water gardens, leading guests directly
to the town below.
Within the four-story mansion, guests
discover a true nineteenth-century "Tasteful Interlude"
in Judge John Williams' original rooms and period settings
surrounded by memorabilia of the life of a mine owner who,
with his family, crossed the great plains in 1849.
You are invited to "dwell in the past"
away from the distractions of the twenty-first century in
rooms and suites dramatically furnished with impressive
antiques. All the bathrooms have been rejuvenated with
porcelain tile, marble thresholds, and wainscoting in the
Victorian style to complement the authentic nineteenth-century
wall-hung sinks and extra tall showers. Forest View
has been enhanced by the addition of a clawfoot bedroom tub
and hardwood floors under Oriental carpets. Red Castle 'time
travelers' savor Victorian sensibilities and entertainments,
sample the chef's own remarkable culinary delights served in a
style reminiscent of the bountifully laden sideboards when
dining was truly an event, and create their own memories to
cherish. |
Truly a special place for discerning
travelers, the award-winning Red Castle Inn has been called "one
of the most charming Inns in America" by McCalls
Magazine, "a uniquely American architectural treasure"
byCountry Living, while Gourmet Magazine
says, "the Red Castle Inn would top my list of places to
stay in the Gold Country, nothing else quite compares with it."
Alpine and Nordic skiing areas, as well as
the three Forks of the scenic Yuba River, are a little more
than 30 minutes away. A creekside picnic in a sylvan setting
is available within a short walking distance. |
