| The
discovery of gold here in 1848 touched off the largest gold
rush in history and reminders of those glory days can be
found everywhere along historic Highway 49. You will find
western American culture in beautiful rural surroundings,
fantastic sporting opportunities, and numerous picturesque
State Historic Parks. The Gold Country is now also home to
charming bed
and breakfast inns, quaint hotels, award-winning
wineries, fine restaurants, antique shops and art galleries.
There are spectacular vistas to enjoy and photograph in the
national forests and public lands. White water rafting,
fishing in clear lakes and streams, forests, mountains and
wildlife. There are also caverns to explore, golf courses to
play and of course, streams in which to pan for gold, where
nuggets can still to be found today . One of the most
beautiful and the second most deep lake in the world is here
called Lake Tahoe. On the border of Nevada, this lake is a
hub of vacation pleasure from fishing and boating, to skiing
and snowboarding, to Nevada side gambling casinos. Further
south you will find one of the most photographed National
Parks in America. Yosemite with its half dome mountain, its
tall waterfalls and meadows with streams running through
attacts thousand of nature lovers every year. |
