Ham and Apple Strata

Ingredients

6 slices wheat bread

2 Tablespoons butter, softened

1-1/2 cups ham

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

3/4 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

3 Granny Smith apples

9 eggs

1-1/4 cups half & half

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 Tablespoon mustard powder

The Day Before: Butter a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Cut crusts off bread. Spread bread with butter and arrange in a single layer in the baking dish. Cut ham into bite-size pieces. Whisk eggs, half & half, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard powder together. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on apples.

Layer 1/2 of ham, apple slices, and cheeses into the baking dish. Repeat. Pour egg mixture over the layers. Cover and refrigerate at least 6 hours or overnight.

Breakfast morning: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes.

Serves: 4 to 6, depending on your appetite.
