Surrounded by stunning
mountain ranges, Wasilla celebrates the Iditarod Trail Days
festival each February and the Iron Dog Race, a contest in which
teams race snowmobiles from Fairbanks to Nome to Big Lake to
Wasilla. In the summer, Wasilla is the base for fishing contests
in the Susitna and Little Susitna valleys.
The majestic glaciers of
Matanuska, Susitna, and Knik link the Chugach and Talkeetna
mountains with Mount Susitna, providing a most graceful backdrop
to an Alaska vacation in Wasilla. For a bit of background history,
visit the Dorothy G. Page Museum and historic town site, the Knik
Museum and Dog Mushers' Hall of Fame, and the State Historical
Park at Hatcher Pass. In neighboring Palmer, you'll enjoy visits
to the Palmer Visitor's Center and Garden, Musk Ox Farm, Reindeer
Farm, and when in season, the Alaska State Fair. |
