Bube's Brewery is an historic nineteenth-century brewery
complex. In addition to being a museum, the complex now
contains three restaurants, a banquet facility, outdoor
biergarten, art gallery, and brewery store. The brewery was
built by Alois Bube, a German immigrant, during Lancaster
County's heyday as the "Munich of the New World"
prior to Prohibition. Today, Bube's Brewery is the only
brewery from the 1800's surviving intact in the United States.

The Bottling Works
...... (717) 653-2056
The Bottling Works is a casual dining restaurant and tavern
in the original bottling plant of Bube's Brewery. The beer and
soft drinks were bottled here, and the water for making the
beer was drawn from the limestone caverns below. Adjacent to
the Bottling Works is an outdoor Biergarten reminiscent of a
drinking garden one may have found in Mr. Bube's Bavarian
homeland. In the middle of the biergarten is the huge original
boiler and smokestack used to create the steampower necessary
to run the brewery.
The menu in the Bottling Works includes steaks, seafood,
light dinners, sandwiches, and salads. On Friday, Saturday,
and some other evenings, live entertainment is featured. On
Sunday evenings in the summertime, live jazz is presented in
the biergarten. Lunch and dinner is served seven days a week,
and the Bottling Works bar is open every day as well.
Reservations are not required, although they are appreciated
for parties of six or more.
Alois Restaurant
..... (717) 653-2057
Alois consists of the original bar and dining rooms in the
Victorian hotel portion of Bube's Brewery. Each individually
decorated room, employing hand stenciling and other painting
techniques, is a work of art worth seeing in its own right. It
is here that artist and chef Ophelia Horn draws upon her
talents in the visual and culinary arts, using the principles
of color, variation, texture, and taste to present a gustation
that is truly unique. One becomes a guest of a staff that
orchestrates an evening wherein the room, music, order of
presentation, and food all complement one another as integral
parts of a memorable whole.
The ever-changing menu employs a concept that allows every
guest to experience a wide variety of foods and condiments
drawn from an international repertoire. Reservations for the
Alois experience can be made for each evening except for
Monday.
The Catacombs
.... (717) 653-2056
The Catacombs Restaurant is several stories below the
surface of the street in the aging cellars of Bube's Brewery.
A costumed guide will greet you and lead you on a tour of the
brewery on your way to dinner. You will descend 43 feet into
the stone-lined vaults where you will find a unique dining
experience with a menu that includes a variety of traditional
and gourmet dishes.
Dinner is served seven nights a week in the Catacombs. Theme
dinners, knows as feasts, are offered in the Catacombs on most
Sunday nights. The most frequent feast is the Medieval Feast,
which has a menu inspired by seasonal medieval cooking and
presents the liveliness and festivity of a feast with the help
of minstrels, wenches, beggars, and other entertainers. This
is not the amusement park version and is generally recommended
for adults. Other feasts include Roman and Halloween Feasts.
Scheduled Sunday feast seats are available by advance ticket
sales only and can be secured by calling during the week. You
may schedule your own feast for a group of twenty or more on
weeknights. |
The Cooper's Shed
Bube's Brewery also offers The Cooper's Shed, a brewery
store and cooperage museum. The store is in the original
cooperage (barrel working shop) of this nineteenth-century
brewery. A large collection of antique cooper's tools is on
display (including many original tools from this cooperage)
and because many museum pieces are not fragile, there is an
actual barrel producing area where they are used. The Cooper's
Shed store features a variety of products including: handmade
coopered items, signature Bube's Brewery items, hand-crafted
beers, home-brewing equipment and supplies, locally made
jewelry, and quality items produced in the local area in
metal, glass, ceramic, wood, and other media.
The Brewery Gallery
In addition to being a restoration of a one-of-a-kind
brewery complex, Bube's Brewery is consciously pursuing the
opportunity to be a venue for artistic expression of all
kinds. In addition to design, culinary, musical, and
theatrical expression, the Brewery Gallery allows the
presentation of visual arts including sculpture, painting,
drawing, assembling, photography, and installation. Although
many works are for sale, the work presented is chosen for its
originality and expression rather than for its saleability.
For a taste of the history surrounding Bube's Brewery, visit
the Brewery Museum or enjoy one of the complimentary tours. A
short tour is available to anyone dining at the Brewery in the
evening either before or after your meal, any day of the week,
all year long. From June 15 to Labor Day, there is a tour
guide on duty every day to give a more in-depth tour. During
the rest of the year, call for advance reservations for the
tour, which is always available to groups. |
